beginnerholdcontrol

One of the most basic and important holds in wrestling. Controls the opponent by wrapping your arm around their head.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. From a lockup position, transition your left arm around the opponent's head

2. Clasp your hands together with the headlock secured

3. Pull the opponent's head tight against your ribs

4. Keep your hips low and base wide for stability

5. Squeeze with your arms, not your hands

6. The opponent can escape via back suplex, push to ropes, or shoot to a waistlock

7. This hold is a key building block for chain wrestling sequences
